Who Uses WordPress? These 60+ Famous Brands, People, and Organizations

Currently, research says that 43.5% of the web is powered by WordPress. Just to make this clear, that’s 43.5% of the entire web. 1

That big number also includes many well-known brands, people and organizations across virtually every niche category you can think of. So if you’re on the fence about using WordPress and need some inspiration, then the list below is for you.

It’s a long list, but just as importantly, it’s not merely a copycat list. Unfortunately, most other lists you’ll find like this on the web are exactly that – they were lazily cobbled together from multiple existing lists without even checking if the sites still use WordPress.

Who Uses WordPress

It’s such a problem that even when you ask Google if Beyonce uses WordPress, for example, their AI overviews tell you she does because so many copycat lists have her down as using WordPress even though she hasn’t in a long time:

Beyonce does not use WordPress

In contrast, I actually checked every one of the sites you see below by hand, and more than half of them I found myself. Inevitably, I’m sure portions of this list will get lazily copied by someone, but as of right now, this is arguably the most unique, verifiable list of its kind you’ll find on the web.

Takeaways and highlights 💡

Here are some fun observations I made from the overall list:

  • Musicians seem to love WordPress. This is purely anecdotal and could be down to chance, but the reason the musicians section is so long is because of how few deadends I encountered when checking sites from that category.
  • The vast majority of the sites were built with a custom theme rather than a commercially available theme.
  • Four sites were built with a custom theme using Automattic’s underscores theme as the base.
  • Three sites were built using the Hello Elementor theme.
  • One site (Green Day) uses a headless WordPress implementation.
  • One site (jQuery) was built with a custom theme that uses the default WordPress theme Twenty Eleven as its base.
  • Yoast SEO, AIO SEO, and Rank Math SEO were all found in the source code of several sites, though the overall presence of SEO plugins wasn’t as ubiquitous as you’d expect it to be. I suspect that fame > SEO has something to do with that.

Final thoughts 💭

And there you have it. Were you surprised by any of the websites on this list?

Some of my personal favorite discoveries were Chuck Norris, Buakaw Banchamek, and Peter Sagan. They, like many of the others, made it onto the list purely by me finding their official sites and checking the source code to see if they happened to use WordPress.

This is also how I’ve known for a long time that any “who uses WordPress” list that has Beyonce on it is either (1) severely outdated or (2) put together half-heartedly by someone who doesn’t care. For the record, Beyonce uses a mix of technologies for her domain and subdomains, with her online store using Shopify:

Beyonce uses Shopify

So the next time someone tells you that Beyonce uses WordPress, feel free to confidently say:

“No, actually, she doesn’t, but you know who does? A whole lot of other people.”

Then send them a link to this post and drop your mic. 🔗
